HUD Breakdown:

Mission Objective
Shoot through waves of enemies with your myriad of weapons. Survive to the end and fight massive bosses to clear the various areas.

Basic Gameplay:
Redshift requires you to not only be swift and dodge waves of enemy bullets but also requires you to dive headfirst into them! Survival is key, use everything at your disposal to ensure that.
One of the key mechanics of Redshift is the use of your shield. Precise timing and manuvering to make the best use of it are necessaray to survive the onslaught of bullets you'll encounter.
Shields are also divided into two distinct categories: Absorb and Reflect.
Absorb shields are used to collect the energy from enemy bullets and store them in your ship. The amount of energy is displayed in your EMP meter at the top-left of the screen. When the EMP meter is full you can detonate it by pressing the 'D' key. It will send out a devestating electromagnetic wave that damages all enemies on screen. It has the added benifit of making all enemy bullets on screen disappear. Proper planning and use can make absorb shields and their EMP counterpart invaluable.
Reflect shields differ greatly from Absorb shields. They do not have an EMP function, however they tend remain activated much longer than Absorb shields and have immediate offensive capabilities.
Reflect shields will bounce enemy bullets back at them and do immediate damage without having to wait for meters to fill up.
Choosing the shield that works best for you can be a crucial part of success in Redshift.
Note: Only bullets can be absorbed or reflected. Lasers, grenades, and rockets will still do damage to you even when the shield has been activated.
EXP and Levelling:

Destroying enemies earns you EXP, and over time will level your character up. When you level up you gain more ATP (Attack Power) and HP (Health Points). This will allow you to take on tougher and tougher enemies with greater ease.
An added benifit of levelling up is that your health is instantly replenished.
Each character will level up slightly differently. Clarke gets an additional ATP with each level and Mayday gets an additional HP with each level. Hammet doesn't get a HP or ATP bonus but does have a 15% chance that an enemy bullet will score a miss when it hits him.
Note: Stats will be recalculated when you select a new character. If you play as Clarke to level 5 and then switch to Mayday, you will lose 5 ATP and gain 5 HP. This gives you the freedome to choose the character bonus that works best for you.
Weapon and Shield Upgrades

Enemies will occasionally drop items for you to pick up. These boxes contain either a weapon, a shield, or will fully restore your health. You'll collect these items into your inventory which can be accessed with the 'P' key.
On the inventory screen you have three main menus. Your inventory list, equipped items and current stats, and the selected item stats.
If you select an item from the inventory list, you'll notice it will display stats in the box next to it. If the text is blue, it indicates that a stat is better than what you have equipped. If it's red it indicates that it's worse than what you have equipped, and white means that the stat is the same or cannot be compared (for example a Reflect Shield does not have an EMP ATP stat, and therefore won't compare to an Absorb unit).
Stat Definitions:

- Stat
What it means
-
HP
Health Points. How much damage your ship can sustain.
-
ATP
Attack Power. How much damage an item does.
-
RoF
Rate of Fire. How quickly a weapon fires.
-
ACC
Accuracy. It's the odds of whether a bullet will score a hit or a miss when it strikes an enemy. Accuracy of 2 has a 50:50 chance to hit, whereas Accuracy of 10 has a 1:10 chance to hit.
-
LCK
Luck / Critical Chance. A critical will score 2x damage when it strikes an enemy. The lower LCK is the more likely it is that a critical hit will occurr.
-
EMP Cost
How many bullets an Absorb Shield is required to absorb to fill up the EMP Meter.
-
EMP ATP
How much damage an EMP does when it's fired. Exclusive to Absorb Shields.
-
Shield ATP
How much damage reflected bullets will do when they strike an enemy. Exclusive to Reflect Shields.
-
Shield DUR
How long a shield will stay on after it has been activated. Shields have a base amount of time that they stay activated, which is 2/3rd of a second. Every point in Shield Duration adds 1/30th of a second to the time it stays on.
-
Rarity
The likelyhood of an item to show up. Generally rarer items have superior stats.
Item recycling:

When an item is selected you can either equip it, select another item, or recycle it. What recycling does is destroys an item and adds it to your recycle bar. When the bar is full (after 5 items are recycled) you'll have the option to redeem an item. This will place a random item back into your inventory. Who knows, maybe it'll be good!
Recycle duplicates will search your inventory for any items that are the same and recycle them so that you don't have to go through by hand.
Tips / Tricks:
Sometimes it's not possible to dodge all of the enemy bullets. Use your shield liberally to either absorb or reflect enemy bullets. Learn the timing of the shield and use the audio ques to your advantage.
Having trouble keeping from getting hit while using the shield? Try diving into or through enemy bullets just after activating your shield.
Enemies taking too long to kill? Try selecting Clakre on the character select screen. He gets a damage bonus.
Failing a mission too easily? Try selecting Mayday on the character select screen. He gets a heath bonus at the cost of a little speed.
Getting hit too much by enemy bullets? Try selecting Hammett on the character select screen. He gets a speed boost and has a 15% chance to score a miss when an enemy bullet hits him.
Secret Technique: If you encounter a flood of bullets, try activating your shield and diving into them. Just as your EMP meter fills up and before your shield deactivates, detonate your EMP. It will remove all of the bullets off of the screen, do damage to all of the enemies, and leave you safe to get out of the way. This only works with the Absorb Shields.

Be aware of boss ships' firing patterns. Sometimes they can change depending on how much damage a boss has sustained.
When you encounter a boss, the game will automatically checkpoint you at the boss fight. Should you fail, you won't need to replay the level; you'll be brought directly to the boss fight.
If you find that a level is too hard, you can always play one of the side missions, or replay a finished level to gain more expierence points. Come back levelled up with a vengence!
Playing a different level does not erase boss checkpoints. You can pick up checkpointed bosses at any time.
Easier or completed levels are an excellent place to collect new and better weapons.
